TV Thursday: Big Haired Broad

I think I should start to put the 3 hours/day I spend watching television to use. TV Thursday will be my second attempt at a blog series. Maybe this one will stick.

i dont know about you, but i can think of two women who influenced me most. 1: my mom (duh) and 2. Julia Sugarbaker. Sure, i spent mornings watching Dark Wing Duck and Rugrats, but when 8am rolled around there was one show: Designing Women.

Centered around four women and a design firm located in Atlanta, the show was my first look at adult women and how they behaved, coped, amd lived...well, adult lives in the south. Julia was the sort of matriarch of the show played by the one and only, Dixie Carter. She had a knack for saying exactly what she thought. I learned that saying what was on my mind could be done in a different way, a professional and charming way. In short, there was another way to stand up for yourself other than my dad's pearls of wisdom: "dont take shit from anyone."

I finally broke down and purchased the season one and two dvds of Designing Women. bliss.

If you haven't ever seen the show, i really encourage you to watch.

This is the second episode, Julia is sticking up for her little sister and previous beauty queen, Suzanne. If I had a sister, I would not hesistate to reacting like this!

This is early on when they take on a funeral for a man who is dieing of AIDS, just to show the broad spectrum of topics and of course, Julia's kick ass response to an ignorant mess of a woman.

Navy, Pink, and Talbot's

Navy and pink really is one of the prettiest color combinations. I think its preppy without being a total WASP; unless that's what you're going for, then, go for it honey!

Mackenzie over at Design Darling is known for her navy and pink; they're her {and her fabulous Online boutique's} signature colors! While I'm throwing out bloggers I follow, I also recently saw Carly over at College Prepster did a great post on the color combination!

When my Mom and I went in to see all of Talbot's new arrivals, we could not have been happier, when the two, main colors were, yep! you guessed it, Navy and Pink! You know I'm not buying anything full price, so I waited a bit, and lucky {not so lucky for my bank account} for me, Talbot's is holding their Customer Appreciation Event, and all full price purchases are 30% off!

I've been on a bit of a skirts and pants kick, so I really do need  want some tops. The pima cotton {third picture down} is this world's version of heaven. I only have a white one now, but that has got to change. They're really substantial and comfortable but come in great colors. Side note: I wish Talbot's was on ebates; I could've completed my shopping during lunch! Maybe this is why i should be GLAD Talbot's is not on ebates.

ok, back to the grind. Happy Tuesday, ya'll!

List: Home Edition

with a few extra dollars in my bank account {Thank you taxman!}, i have decided to get some serious work done on my house. IE: decorating areas in which I've blatantly skipped over. this is probably going to be real boring for everyone but me, my mom, and my aunt Kathy. :)

list of things that need to be added/subtracted/re-done:

1. move downstairs rug to upstairs
2. replace downstairs rug with this cheap beauty that several bloggers have posted about, i found out about Rugs USA from Danielle Oakey {love her work!}:

3. hang amazing Amanda Catherine Designs prints that I've now had for 2 months. (either on empty wall in dining room or on blank wall in bedroom)
4. make decision about coffee table IE: paint existing vs buy new one; found this one at my crack house Target

5. buy new Coton Colors wreath for front door (with NO attachment). see if they can write "Welcome" in teal or lime paint.

7. make decision about existing and unfinished side table for upstairs bedroom. its been in my outside shed for....6 months. half painted because i...OK, i have no excuse. home girl needs a night stand again.
8. buy new TV stand for downstairs. i like this one at Target. {grown girls can buy furniture at Target, right?}

9. buy green Adirondack chairs for outside porch. <--i say this EVERY summer. it is happening.
10. deal with dining room table chairs; i really liked Emily A. Clark's Design post on adding pink into the dining room. seen here. thinking of painting the table and chairs pink. then incorporating existing hanging fabric into a runner, then adding white candles/vases.
11. BUY LAMPS. I've never seen someone have such an issue with lamps. i have ONE lamp shade, that i literally owned for years before using it to, y'know, provide light. i also have this awful lamp that i store in my 2nd/shit room. my plan is to spray paint it white, add ribbon to the top and bottom of the shade and/or add a monogram in the center

OK, my wallet and i are exhausted from this post.

biting the bullet

damn you groupon and your great deals! today's deal is 10 anytime classes at a local fitness studio called Good Friends! I've been scoping out good friends for quiet some time, and with this deal, i finally bit the bullet. It is a $100 value priced at $30! i mean, c'mon, how could i resist?!

i have to admit that I've been inspired by JGIWC love and commitment to her gym in NYC; I'd like to think that going to classes seems more social then just going to a gym where no one knows or cares if I'm there. and well, if its a terrible experience, i only paid $30 for it. lets be honest, I've paid $30 for plenty of terrible experiences.

and while i haven't bought my puppy stroller, i {think} I'm going to bite the bullet and walk my first 5k on Saturday {minus talulah due to no puppy stroller}. which 5k you ask? oh, right, The Palace Saloon 5k. i like my running/walking with a side of booze. hello compromise.

OK, enough about exercising. chik-fil-a is definitely on the menu tonight :)

oh wait...

Green Pants, I Love You

i finally bought my green pants! aka: I got to Gap before they sold out of my size. see: blue pant fiasco of 2012.{which coincidentally..they finally HAD my size, so i scooped those babies up too!}

you can find them here. the fit is fabulous! they fit true to the "broken in" feel. I've had them for three days, and I've worn them two out of the three days! see below for how i styled them. {also see Internet pictures for details because of crappy non-iPhone pics}

Outfit 1: Easter egg hunt & Family brunch!

styled with Talbots Tunic, Steve Madden studded loafers and this fabulous, REVERSIBLE belt from Talbots. seriously y'all: silver on one side, gold on the other. hello, perfection.

the details not captured in crappy, crappy picture:

Outfit 2: Work

styled with white cardigan, white tank, Talbots scarf, and Steve Madden sandals.

The details not captured in crappy, crappy phone picture:

Back to Easter wknd details, here is a picture of the Easter baskets that I was responsible for:

Talulah Grace's on the right and Mama's on the left. {and my drug of choice, 44oz of Diet Coke for $.75}

We had a great day full of family, mimosas, grazing on yummy food, and eating too much Easter candy. I hope y'all had a great Easter weekend!

just call me the crazy dog lady.

lets just say, things have been B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

a plunge back into writing:

first of all, GCB. amazing. where has this show been all of my life?! i had finally read enough blog posts on it, i was convinced to watch the pilot episode. fast forward 4 hours later...it was love. Kristin Chenoworth AND Annie Potts? hell. yes.

OK, i know I've said this before, but this time its for real. I NEED TO GET A HOLD OF MYSELF. my body is out of control. no, I am out of control. so...for real, homegirl is getting back to a place of health and not eating as if a)the world is ending b) I'm a bear prepping for winter hibernation c) i have the metabolism of an eleven year old boy before puberty.

the few times I've been out walking lately, my pretty pretty princess, talulah grace, has lasted a whopping 30 minutes. little lady does not like to sweat. she literally plops down in a neighbors yard and refuses to move. picture it, me, a size 16 sweaty mess + talulah, princess puppy. stranded on 6th avenue {a few blocks from an ex bf, mind you} because said princess puppy does not feel like walking the rest of the walk home.

enter my savior:

am i crazy? the correct {and most popular} response: YES, YOU ARE CRAZY, YOU CRAZY CRAZY DOG LADY. what reasonable man is going to marry your sorry ass with that ridiculous pink carriage for your dog??

consider it ordered, folks. i have no shame. I'll probably be sporting these while walking through midtown with my pink dog stroller. if you see us, make sure to honk and/or throw rotten tomatoes.

however, there is a group of people who need to get a hold of themselves a lot more than i do. hello Shahs of Sunset. WHAT...a mess. these people are insane in the membrane. i love love love it.

on that note, Happy Holy Week!
